Hey everybody, Ryan Watson here with Modernfold Chicago.
Today we’re going to talk about a restaurant client in Oak Brook. They’ve utilized a Skyfold Zenith 55 in their private dining space. The wall size is roughly 16 by 9, so a little smaller,a little more for an intimate private dining area.
They’ve finished the Skyfold wall with a wood veneer and then accented that with some LEDs on the bottom row. So when the Skyfold wall is up in the ceiling, we’ve got some added light that can be provided there as well. One of the walls in which the Skyfold makes closure up against is essentially a window wall, so we’ve got plenty of natural daylight there. When the Skyfold wall is down, those lighting accents are on the bottom of the Skyfold, typically they’re going be in the off position at that point. And when the wall is up, you have the choice of having the LEDs either on or off.
The space was designed by DPA Architects and the general contractor was Belial Construction. Modernfold Chicago provided and installed the Skyfold system. The wall itself is 12 inches thick. We’ve got a wood veneer finish on the one face, a layer of sheet steel, honeycomb core, another layer of sheet steel, some acoustic insulation, roughly eight to nine inches of dead airspace and then repeat construction on the other side. Couple that with dual head seals, dual floor seals and dual end seals. So, we truly do have a solid sound separation between spaces. The idea is here is a should sound happen to get through the first half of the wall, it’s going to bounce around in that dead airspace before it has a chance to make it through off and go to the other side.
