Modernfold Chicago recently completed a stunning operable wall installation for a confidential client at 320 South Canal, Chicago in collaboration with Interior Architects and Mortensen Construction. This project showcases two sophisticated systems working seamlessly together, the Modernfold Acousti-Clear® and Skyfold Zenith, delivering both acoustic performance and architectural flexibility in a commercial space. Notably, the Acousti-Clear® installation spans an impressive 110 feet.

Hello all, Ryan Watson here with Modernfold Chicago. Today we’re going to talk about a confidential client located at 320 South Canal. The space was designed by Interior Architects and the general contractor is Mortensen Construction.

So, we have two different applications here, one with Modernfold and one with Skyfold. The Modernfold application is their Acousti-Clear® paired product, sized at 110 feet long by 10 feet tall. This is the largest Acousti-Clear® product in the state of Illinois. It’s 19 panels wide and has three ADA compliant pass doors with panic hardware. The system is acoustically rated at 51STC, utilizes standard clear tempered glass, and has a frame finish in RAL8019. Wilson Art Plastic Laminate was also used on the panels where the Skyfold wall interfaces with the Acousti-Clear® system.  Modernfold’s G330 head track applies and the Acousti-Clear® wall is manually operated. The Modernfold Acousti-Clear® wall separates a pre-function space and the NPR room.

We also have Skyfold Zenith systems. There are two walls, sized at 28 feet long by 11 feet tall. The two Zenith walls run parallel with each other. and make closure against the perpendicularly running Modernfold Acousti-Clear® system. The Skyfold walls are sized at 28 feet long by 11 feet tall. They are three panels wide and six panels high with a standard drive. The finish for the Skyfold systems is a Duvaltex wall covering and black seals were also utilized. Skyfold systems are fully automated and this particular application, they make closure directly against the face of the Modernfold Acousti-Clear® system as well.

Fun fact, as to avoid relocation of existing MEP, Skyfold motor and hanger locations were adjusted. The support steel was also segmented, allowing us to maximize ceiling soffit height at the space of the Skyfold locations.
