Modernfold Chicago at Moretti’s in Elgin, Illinois

Brian Watson, president at MFC, visited Moretti’s Elgin location to talk about the walls they use to divide their party area.

Transcript:

Hi there, Brian Watson with Modernfold Chicago. Today we’re at Moretti’s Elton location which recently opened to public. Today we’re in the second floor event space where they have two Modernfold paired panel systems. It gives them the flexibility to host one large open gathering or subdivide the space into two or three separate parties. The project was originally designed with one operable partition, sub-dividing the space into a 2 /3,1 /3 scenario. Acoustics were important for the owner, so we decided to go with a Modernfold Encore paired panel system with a 54 STC to give them solid acoustic performance while hosting separate parties.

The partition also has a pass door located at the lead panel that gives them convenient access to the bar location at the west end of the building.
During construction, the owner decided they wanted to add a second partition to allow them the flexibility to apply the space into three equal rooms if needed. It presented a couple of different challenges for us to overcome. First, they were concerned that the middle room was going to be too dark because it did not have any direct exposure to the exterior windows. So to that end, we decided to change to spec on the second wall from the Encore partition to the Premiere partition.

That gave us the ability to incorporate windows into the top portion of the panels that allows direct sunlight to an outreach to the middle room in the center position. It also has a bar here at the lead end of the longest. It did not allow us to have a terminating point for the partition, so the owner made a slot within their bar to allow us to close all the way to the back wall. We’ve also added a pass door to allow access to this bar for convenience to service this area when everything is in use. Again, we’re here in the now middle room with both partitions extended as you can see. They’ll allow the owner to have three separate parties while maintaining a physical privacy. So, the Modernfold product line, again, Encore to I left, Premiere to the right, provides a lot of flexibility, a lot of options, both in terms of finishes, acoustic privacy. The windows are a nice add here as well, allows again, daylight to come in while still maintaining privacy visually between the two rooms.
